Kiwanis Young Professionals UK Launches Another Community Little Library

On 8 March, the Kiwanis Young Professionals UK will celebrate the launch of another community book exchange as part of its growing Little Library initiative. The new installation will be located at Rounds Green Methodist Church in the West Midlands, continuing a mission that is already making a meaningful difference across local neighbourhoods.

A Simple Idea with a Powerful Impact

The Little Library project is inspired by the global Little Free Library movement: small, publicly accessible book cabinets where anyone can take a book, leave a book, and share the joy of reading.

For Kiwanis Young Professionals UK, the initiative is about more than books. It focuses on three core goals:

  • Free access to books for children and families
  • Accessible reading opportunities within local communities
  • Positive community impact through literacy and connection

By placing libraries in welcoming community spaces, the project removes barriers to reading and encourages lifelong learning.

Why This Matters

Access to books plays a critical role in a child’s development. Regular reading supports:

  • Language and literacy skills
  • Imagination and creativity
  • Emotional and social growth
  • Confidence and academic success

Unfortunately, not every household has easy access to books. Community libraries like these help bridge that gap, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to explore stories and knowledge.

The initiative also strengthens neighbourhood bonds. Residents engage with the space, donate books, and take shared ownership—turning a simple wooden cabinet into a symbol of community care.

The New Launch at Rounds Green

The latest Little Library installation at Rounds Green Methodist Church will serve local families and children in the surrounding area. Community members are encouraged to:

  • Visit the library and choose a book
  • Donate gently used children’s books
  • Share the initiative with friends and neighbours

Each new location expands the network of accessible reading spaces and brings the project closer to its wider goal: fostering a brighter future for children through literacy.

Growing a Movement

The Little Library initiative is part of Kiwanis Young Professionals UK’s broader commitment to improving the lives of young people. By combining community partnerships, volunteer energy, and a clear focus on children’s wellbeing, the group continues to expand its impact across the region.

With every new installation, the message remains the same: small actions—like sharing a book—can create lasting change.
